30 Ways to Successfully Ruin Your Website

1. Get your site built with a popular CMS like Joomla or Wordpress and then hand it over to someone who doesn’t understand server side programming and decides to convert everything to static HTML pages.

2. Get your site ranking very well in the search engines then make your site temporarily down for maintenance for three or more days.

3. Convert your SEO optimized web site into a flash site.

4. Design your website so that it is vulnerable to spammers.

5. <br /> body {<br /> display: none;<br /> }<br />
Ooops.

6. Get unsanitized input from the user.

7. Send your FTP info overseas for support…

8. get hosting with 1and1 then they delet eveything on your site because there gypsys!

9. Allow all comments to pass through un-filtered. (see cracked.com’s comment system, almost 100% spam)

10. Leave comments un-moderated. (racial flamewars tend to make bad impressions)

11. Use brightly-colored backgrounds like pure red and green.

12. Midi. ‘Nuff said.

13. Animated gifs.

14. Huge blocks of text with no paragraphs or headers.

15. Under construction pages with no content.

16. Block access to IE users and force a re-direct to Firefox (yes, some websites actually do this)

18. Leave your Cpanel open for everyones access..

19. Make your site resize browser windows.

20. link to sites that are banned by search engines.

21. Use comic sans as your default font.

22. Edit your source code’s without backing up first.

23. Don’t give reasons for banning.

24. forget to pay your bills

25. Have some kind of music/melody playing in the background, with no obvious way for the user to stop it.

26. Use a mystery meat navigation system (What page does a red Square image take me too?)

27. Get SEO consultant, then ditch it and the links when you’ve got a high ranking, thinking the ranking will stay.

28. Web browsers can handle 256 million colors. Must use them all!!!!!

29. Have a really nice looking well designed….. Flash website.

30. Get the cheapest person from china you can find to code your website.

    because flash is just annoying and can take long to load if not done correctly. It really depends on your site needs. For art it’s great, for business it’s just a speed bump…

    Most people just want info and to move on, not be impressed…
